For great skin, think beyond skin care.

Addressing the primary cause of skin issues, not just treating the secondary problems, is key on the path to healthy skin.

A couple of months ago, I began experiencing breakouts at my hairline. I was taking very good care of my skin — what in the world was going on?! After a lot of heartache and searching, it occurred to me that I'd been using a new hair product. It's one of the hottest hair care brands out there right now, revered by the most popular hair studios and designers. I have to admit, that while I liked what the product does for my hair, I bought it almost solely for the smell and because it was so popular. Oddly enough, the hair product also made me sneeze when I applied it.

So I decided to switch back to my tried and true hair care. Sure enough — the breakouts cleared up within a week! I returned the sneezy product to the salon where I purchased it and asked if they'd heard of anyone breaking out from it. They said they hadn't heard specifically of breakouts, but that they had several clients tell them it made their heads itch. Hmmmm...

If your skin is giving you fits, be sure you think beyond your daily skin care. Sometimes the primary cause may be something relatively unrelated to your skin care regimen, like hair products, laundry detergent, certain foods, etc.
